A poem

There is a moment that stalks my solitude,
that white gem against the deepest night,
the cool invitation which glistens,
seared upon my soul forever more.
A wishing star in disguise,
this prosecutor of misdeeds
in love with the essence of her deceased will,
parting, with a closing teardrop.
There is only the here and now,
and destiny is but a notion.
I do not seek another lifetime
to be with this broken woman.
A single raindrop on the windowpane
distorts the world outside,
rippling visions of what is,
what was, and
what could never be.
Her memory, a kaleidoscope
of laughter, tears, heated embraces,
shattered fragments
rearranging into new patterns
that makes no sense.
This ache has taken up residence
in the hollows of my bones.
A dull throbbing reminder
of the dazzling brilliance
now extinguished forever.
