A poem

still life
a solitary sculpture
crumpled on the forest floor
cradled by the earth
tender and unmoving
its vibrant dance now etched in stillness
once verdant with the sap of life coursing
through emerald veins
unfurled to the first kisses of spring
basking in summer’s golden blaze
until edges burned with the tinge of leaving
autumn’s passionate farewell
as russet fire gave way to brittle surrender
severed from towering anchor
scattered into the loamy tapestry
nutrients to nourish new becomings
delicate truth inscribed
in intricate patterns
whispering impermanence
cycle of the cosmic
for we too are ephemeral leaves
riding invisible currents
destined to fall and fade
mere moments unfolding
between verdant emergence
and radiant release
revel in the blazing
before the inevitable
return to the earth’s embrace
