Careering, crashing, spiralling downward
bouncing, bounding, glancing spears
splintered rays from jagged edges
catching rain like rainbow tears
Now they’re gathering momentum
slipping, sliding in the wet
jostling, bumping, leaping higher
as they reach the steep arête
flying outwards dropping fast
seconds from their resting place
razor-keen, those granite shards
smash into the bald rock face
on the rebound, falling glass
a cast of boulders, flints, and scree
scattered far around the foothills
avalanche on Beinn MacDuibh
Beinn MacDuibh (Ben McDwee) is a Scottish Ben (mountain) in the Cairngorm area of the Scottish Highlands, where I have spent many hours climbing in these remote areas.
