A poem
scales once shimmering
now dull, losing lustre
great wings folded
no longer catching wind
the furnace within
smouldering to embers
fiery breath
its last tendrils dissipating
onlookers in awe
at the ancient beast’s descent
for its massive form
the earth trembles
as its final moments
give way to stillness
a belly carved into valleys
mountains now at rest
an era concluding
a legend retiring to myth
in its wake, a world
must find a new blaze
