POETRY
A poem

secrets spilled from
sidewalk cracks
we hairline fractures
unfurl our ears
collecting the murmurs
of morning runners
weight of their footfalls
pulse of the pavement
at noon businessmen
hurry past clutching
leather briefcases
their phones pressed
to their ears
we overhear deals
brokered in hushed
tones under the wink
of a summer sun
comes evening
and young lovers
moongaze hand-in-hand
we drown in their
sweetness as they
whisper promises
written in stars
but it’s after midnight
when the streets sigh
and we bare our souls
to skies salted
with regret, we gulp
down the bitter dregs
of 2 am umbrellas
bobbing spots of light
that leave in their wake
a lonesome silence
