Some hints and tips to keep your eyes healthy

With all the emphasis on social media and phone texting, there is a lot of pressure on us to look after our eyesight, and taking care of our eyes is paramount.
While professional eye care is essential, there are numerous home remedies that can complement it, ensuring the health and well-being of our precious vision. From soothing tired eyes to alleviating irritation, these home remedies offer practical and natural solutions for maintaining optimal eye health.
Here’s my own comprehensive guide, with detailed instructions for each of the home remedies, tailored to ensure your eyes receive the care they deserve.
Instructions for each of the home remedies for eye care:
Cold Compress
Take a clean wash-cloth or soft towel and soak it in cool (not freezing) water.
Wring out the excess water so it’s not dripping wet.
Lie down and place the damp, cool compress over your closed eyes for 10–15 minutes.
Re-wet the compress with cool water as needed to keep it chilled.
The cold can help reduce puffiness, relieve eye strain, and refresh tired eyes.
Warm Compress
Take a clean wash-cloth and run it under warm (not hot) water until saturated.
Wring out excess water so it doesn’t drip.
Close your eyes and place the warm compress over them for 5–10 minutes.
The warmth can help liquefy any blocked oils in the tear ducts and stimulate tear production for dry eyes.
Rewet the compress with warm water as needed to maintain the heat.
Eye Exercises
Palming: Rub palms together to generate heat, then cup them over closed eyes (without pressing on eyes) for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Figure Eights: Follow an imaginary figure 8 pattern with your eyes, keeping your head still.
Eye Rotations: Slowly rotate your eyes clockwise and counter-clockwise several times.
Stay Hydrated
Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day to keep your body and eyes hydrated.
Increase water intake if you live in a dry climate or during hot weather.
Proper hydration can prevent dry, gritty eyes.
Green Tea Bags
Brew 2 green tea bags and allow them to cool completely until just warm.
Lie down and place the warm, moist tea bags over closed eyes for 10–15 minutes.
The antioxidants in green tea may help reduce eye puffiness and inflammation.
Blink Regularly
Make an effort to blink your eyes regularly, about once every 4–5 seconds.
Blinking helps spread tears across the eye surface to prevent dryness.
This is especially important when using digital devices for long periods.
Eye Massage
Using clean finger tips, gently massage the eye area in circular motions.
Apply light pressure around the brow bone, temples, and under-eye area.
This can stimulate drainage and increase blood flow to the eyes.
Proper Nutrition
Eat foods rich in vitamin A (carrots, sweet potatoes, leafy greens) for eye health.
Get vitamin C (citrus, bell peppers, broccoli) which has antioxidant benefits.
Include vitamin E (nuts, seeds, avocado) and omega-3s (salmon, walnuts) to protect vision.
Be sure to consult an eye doctor if you experience persistent eye issues or vision problems.
Here are some of the best commercial products for eye care:
