A poem
The river flows ever onward,
its waters a mirror to the world.
I pause on the mossy bank
and gaze into its depths.
Reflected there, I see my face
that familiar visage that has accompanied me
through the years.
But the image shimmers and shifts, hinting at the vastness
that lies beneath the surface.
Life is a kaleidoscope of moments,
each one refracting into a million fragments
of memories and experiences.
Joy and sorrow, triumph and heartache,
they all swirl together in an endless dance.
And we, mere voyagers on this temporal stream,
can only embrace the flashes of beauty
as they arise before fading into the eddies of the past.
Sometimes, the waters are tranquil,
and I see my dreams reflected there,
visions of love and purpose
that beckon me ever forward.
At other times, the currents churn violently,
roiling with the turmoil of fear and doubt.
Yet even in the darkest depths,
glimmers of hope can be found,
like sunlight piercing the gloom.
As I sit beside the river’s course,
I am reminded that life is a journey
of constant motion and change.
The sands of time ever shift beneath our feet,
and what was solid ground one moment
becomes a distant memory the next.
All we can do is flow with the tide,
savouring each crest and trough as it comes.
In the end, perhaps
that is the greatest lesson the river imparts
to let go and surrender to the ebb and flow,
for in that surrender lies the deepest freedom.
When I raise my eyes from the reflected world
to the vast expanse above,
I see that we are all part of a grander weft,
woven from a billion individual strands
into one breathtaking whole.
