Movie cinemas have changed in the last 100 years
Movie theatres sure aren’t what they used to be.

Movie theatres sure aren’t what they used to be.
Back in the 1920s, grand movie palaces with lavish decor and massive screens provided an event experience, but theaters in the 50s shrank in size and focused more on convenience.
The multiplex boom of the 70s-80s brought tiny screens but plenty of choice. Stadium seating in the 90s and online ticketing in the 2000s made things more comfortable. Now theatres battle home entertainment with premium formats like IMAX and 4DX.
In recent years, the competition between home entertainment systems and cinemas has reached new heights with the advent of streaming platforms and high-quality home theaters.
Although concessions keep getting pricier, audiences still enjoy the immersive, communal experience, and while much has changed, the big screens continue to draw audiences a century later.
