Poetry
A poem

Creaking desks and faded posters,
hand-me-down clothes and thrift store finds,
you stand out in the sea of wealth and privilege.
Fancy cars and brand names,
exotic vacations and tutors galore
their comforts remain out of reach.
Whispers follow in the hall,
side-eyed glances judge your every move.
Each day a tightrope walk
between two worlds colliding.
They complete homework without worry
while you work nights and weekends
just to scrape by.
So you study late,
determined to exceed expectations.
Nights of struggling alone
with ramshackle textbooks and spotty WiFi.
Pouring sweat and tears into term papers,
grasping at scholarships, hungry for a future
only you can earn.
On the day awards are announced,
you hold breath reserved for dreams
almost beyond imagining.
Then, your name rings out,
recognition ripples through the auditorium.
You have won, prospered against the odds
through will alone.
A path ahead clears, from this world to the next.
