A poem

My body, a homeland I’m still learning
This terrain once foreign, now familiar
I traverse the hills and valleys of me
Navigating each curve, every contour
The map was erased, rewritten against my will
My borders invaded, landmarks destroyed
Wounds inflicted that forever changed the landscape
Scars now dot across the cover of my abode
Each one tells a story etched into my flesh
Moments captured on my body’s canvas
Indelible marks of all that I’ve endured
And all that has shaped the person I have become
I reclaim these lines, every blemish and bruise
Owning my narrative, I author my legend
With gentle care, I will restore what was taken
Honouring the journey, releasing the pain
This body, this homeland I’m finally home in
No power can rewrite my story again
For I now hold the pen and map that will guide me
As I write my future across my skin’s canvas
