A new way to game with AR glasses

Tecno, a company known for its innovative smartphone designs, is now venturing into the gaming world with its latest product, the Pocket Go. This device is being touted as the first gaming kit that runs on Windows and features augmented reality (AR) technology.
The Pocket Go comes with AR glasses that have tiny 0.71-inch Micro-OLED screens, which create the illusion of a massive 215-inch display from about six meters away. These glasses are also user-friendly for those who need prescription lenses, offering adjustments to fit their needs.
The glasses aren’t just about the AR experience, they’re also designed for comfort, and have adjustable dioptre settings up to 600 degrees, ensuring that players can game for longer periods without eye strain.
Despite its powerful features, the Pocket Go is designed to be portable, amd is significantly smaller and lighter than other handheld Windows gaming devices, making it easy to take on the go.
Under the hood, the Pocket Go is quite powerful. It’s equipped with an octa-core processor that can reach speeds up to 5.1 GHz. To keep things cool, it includes a PC-grade fan and three copper heat pipes.
The device also uses special materials to convert game sounds into vibrations, adding another layer to the gaming experience. Beyond gaming, the Pocket Go can function as a mobile workstation, offering a full Windows desktop experience.
While it works seamlessly with Tecno’s own devices, it’s not yet clear if it will be compatible with other smartphones. Gamers will also appreciate the inclusion of Hall Effect switches in the controls, which are less likely to suffer from the drift issues seen in other gaming systems.
The release date and price of the Pocket Go are still unknown, but it’s part of a broader range of innovative products Tecno showcased at MWC 2024, including a robot dog and new smartphone materials.
Connectivity and Compatibility
While specific details on connectivity ports were not fully disclosed, the device is expected to have at least two USB Type-C ports and a 3.5 mm audio jack.
The Pocket Go is designed to work well with Tecno’s Mega Mini T1 Windows PC and Tecno smartphones. Compatibility with other Android or iOS devices via an app has not been detailed.
Additional Features
The AR glasses feature nanostructured acoustic materials and a unique vibration enhancement algorithm to convert in-game sounds into haptic feedback, enhancing the immersive gaming experience.
The device supports head tracking and vibration, and it includes a six-axis gyroscope.
Portability
The Pocket Go is marketed as the smallest AR handheld on the market, emphasizing its portable design.
