A poem

We crave the instant, the immediate gratification.
Our screens flicker with endless enticements,
the world of temptation at our fingertips.
We want what we want, and we want it now.
A quick click, a tap, a swipe to get it,
no time for the slow, the delayed, the waiting.
But the true test lies in that patient tending,
the careful cultivation, the gradual unfolding,
the delayed gratification that growth requires.
Nourishing the seed, watering the earth,
watching the steady gradual emergence,
uncovering the hidden treasures within.
The fruits plucked too soon, they spoil and fade,
but the harvest that’s savoured, it lasts and endures
beyond the setting of each day’s final light.
Resist the easy siren call of excess,
find your footing in the valley of delayed gratification,
let the slow burn kindle, the ember glow brighter.
To the blaze of hard-won painstaking achievement,
the radiant, abundant harvest under new dawns
is the proud legacy of discipline.
Patience well-practised.
