A poem

i.
once i was a blazing inferno
a nuclear furnace of creation
burning bright, burning hot
spilling forth life and light
ii.
now my embers grow dim
my fire dwindles, my light fades
i am a dying star, a spent nova
my time here is at an end
iii.
to the planets that orbited my heat
i bequeath the elements of their being
the carbon, the oxygen, the iron
the building blocks of their worlds
iv.
to the celestial dance that circled me
i leave the momentum, the gravity
the choreography of the cosmos
that will spin on without my pull
v.
to the universe at large
i offer my final brilliant burst
a supernova’s colourful crescendo
before i collapse into darkness
vi.
my life, my light, my love
i pour into the great void
to be reborn, recycled, renewed
as something new, something more
