The normal chromosome 21 pair have genes, that when expressed, regulate certain brain functions in the developing fetus. Downs children have an extra copy of number 21, called Trisomy, and in particuar of one gene section in the chromosome, and that interupts the proper expression of the genes resulting in faulty development.
