IMOGENE’S NOTEBOOK
A poem

Caught in a spiral of deceit,
shavings of mist crawl over still wheat,
entrapping the scarecrow.
The caress of an unapologetic hand
masks the beauty of a starling’s plume,
as sunshine sprinkles off the glistening dew,
and lacquered lies of veiled conceit
blush the dawn with claret skies.
As a frog ages in a stagnant pond,
the prince royally flaunts his favour.
Lily pads serenely float,
while mayflies engage
in a grotesque display of indifference.
Upon a splintered stone, pursed lips
hide wistful moments, questions never asked
of a descending drifting sun.
