A poem
light fades dimming slowly
a candle’s dancing flame
struggling against darkness
memories burn before dissipating
into wisps of smoke
breath shortens
a steady inhale, a stuttering exhale
as warmth departs
then a shell
an empty vessel
a discarded chrysalis
A clutch at meaning
grasping for consolation
in the natural cycle of birth, life,
and release
a speck of stardust
returning
to the cosmic embrace
of the universe’s end
