Hi all
Here are 3 techniques to use that will elevate your poems from the dreary run-of-the mill list of words to something eye-catching, and will make your writing “pop”
1. Explore Juxtaposition
Juxtaposition involves placing two contrasting ideas, images, or concepts side by side to create tension, surprise, or a deeper meaning.
How to use it:
Pair opposing themes like life and death, chaos and calm, or urban and natural landscapes.
Use imagery that clashes but still feels interconnected.
Example:
"The city breathes steel and smoke,
yet a lone flower fights through the cracks,
its petals soft as lullabies
against the roar of commuter trains."
Here, the hardness of urban life contrasts with the delicate beauty of the flower, evoking resilience and hope.
